Cellular and tissue based products CDMO for the Japanese market

PharmaBio Corporation (hereinafter PharmaBio; Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; Representative Director: Hitoshi Kusano) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Tetsuo Nagano, a visiting professor of the Drug Discovery Initiative at the University of Tokyo, Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo, as our Scientific Advisor on April 13.
From the long-term experience of the development and manufacturing of regenerative medical products (cell and tissue derived medicines), we believe that it is essential to establish development infrastructure of manufacturing processes and supply chains that are optimized according to the characteristics of regenerative medical products, which are very different from molecular compounds and antibody medicines by living cells themselves being products.

In order to achieve the establishment, PharmaBio has been developing a project “Research and development of manufacturing process of regenerative medical products with stable quality using proprietary analytical method utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to realize curative therapy of diseases for which treatment method is not established." At the 32nd National Strategy Special Zone Advisory Council held on December 15, 2017, the Prime Minister approved the project as the first Specific Core Business in Tokyo area, and it has been receiving support for realizing the promotion of market growth with the all-Japan regime.

Dr. Nagano has successfully served as a professor at University of Tokyo Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science and an executive director of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Agency (PMDA), and has deep knowledge in pharmaceuticals and its regulation and administration. By his appointment as our adviser, PharmaBio will be able to receive important advice not only from the basic pharmacological aspect but also from the aspect of regulatory affairs and administration. This will accelerate the promotion of our business, and it's expected to contribute to society through development of regenerative medical product in innovative and higher quality.

【About Dr. Tetsuo Nagano】
After graduating from Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Tokyo and completing a doctoral course at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Science, Dr. Nagano studied at Duke University Medical Center in the United States. After returning to Japan, he became an assistance professor then a professor of the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Science. Then he served as an executive director of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Agency (PMDA), and now is a Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo, Visiting Professor of the Drug Discovery institute of the University of Tokyo. During this period, he has served other positions such as a director of the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan. Finally, he has been a secretary of the Second division of Science Council of Japan since 2011, then it’s department manager since 2014.
